Summer Art Showcase

Teen Leadership Group

Teen Leadership Group’s Summer Art Showcase

The Quarryville Library Teen Leadership Group would like to announce their annual Summer Art Showcase. This contest, open to artists of all ages and abilities, is designed to meet two objectives

  1. to liven up the library’s Teen Area, which is looking pretty plain, and
  2. to raise funds for the group’s budget.

So if you’re an artist, we’d like your help to decorate our Teen Area for the summer! Please consider submitting your work for our Summer Art Showcase. Art in any medium that can be displayed—including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, sculpture—is eligible. We will be accepting entries beginning immediately through August 4. Entries will be on display in the Teen Area from the date of submission through August 13.

There will be three categories: child, teen, and adult; first and second place winners and an honorable mention will be chosen for each category. First place winners will receive a $50 first prize, and second place winners will receive a gift certificate to an area business and five free movie rental coupons.

A reception and announcement of the winners to take place during the August Teen Night Program, which is scheduled for August 5, 2016, 5:30—7:30 pm.

There is a $10 entry fee for each piece submitted, with a maximum of three pieces per entrant. All proceeds benefit the Teen Leadership Group.

A Teen Leadership Group is a group of teens (13-18 years old) who volunteer to plan, promote, and run teen programming in the library. This group also recommends materials for purchase—including books, games, and movies—and makes suggestions about new and existing services.

Please contact Randi Kennedy, 717-806-1804 or rkennedy@quarryvillelibrary.org, with any questions.

July Book Club – The Grace That Keeps This World

Book Discussion: Wednesday, July 13th  at 1:30 p.m.

Gary and Susan Hazen—high school sweethearts married for many years, born and bred in the Adirondack community of Lost Lake—live a simple and honest life and have instilled values in their two grown sons by example. But despite their efforts, Gary senses that his sons are starting to pull away and can’t help but feel he is at fault. His younger son, Kevin, has ambitions that extend far beyond the snowy edges of their small town. And his elder, Gary David, so fears disappointing his father that he is keeping an important part of his life secret.

The Grace That Keeps This World is a story about family, community, and the shared values that underlie and sustain human relationships. And ultimately, it is a tale of profound loss, human fallibility, and the love—romantic, neighborly, or familial—that can sometimes blur our line of vision.
