Go-Fore Golf is Back!

8th annual Go-Fore Golf Banner

We here at the Quarryville Library are excited to announce our Eighth Annual “Go-Fore Golf at the Quarryville Library,” a fun, family-focused indoor miniature golf fundraiser designed to energize the public and build community partnerships. This year, Go-Fore Golf is sponsored by A&A Auto Sales & Service and Ferguson & Hassler Supermarket.

The event to be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017, will consist of a sixteen-hole miniature golf course INSIDE the library that weaves in and around our bookshelves. The community will have a chance to come out of the cold and play a unique round of miniature golf through the library, enjoy lunch or dinner at our “17th Hole Café” (sponsored by Stoner, Inc.) and participate in other family-friendly activities, all while helping to raise money for the library.

We’re changing our schedule a bit this year! We’ve extended the hours for regular golf, which will now last until 3 pm. We’re closing the course for a few hours, to reopen at 6pm with GLOW GOLF: a black-light lit course with glowing golf balls! Glow Golf will last from 6 pm until 9 pm.

For Regular Golf, from 10:00am – 3:00pm, admission is $5.00 for adults / $3.00 for children 12 and under.
For Glow Golf, from 6:00pm – 9:00pm, admission is $6.00 for adults / $4.00 for children 12 and under.

Players may be of all ages but groups are limited to five players. Prizes will be awarded for best pre-school, child, teen, adult, and senior score of the day. Tee times are strongly suggested, but not required, and can be made by calling the library at 786-1336 or by visiting our website www.quarryvillelibrary.org.

Schedule of Events
10 am – Doors Open
11 am – 3 pm – Balloon Animal Art & Face-Painting with the Balunguy and Friends
3 pm – 6 pm – Course closed for intermission
6 pm – 9 pm – Course Open for GLOW Golf

Please note on Go-Fore Golf Saturday, the library will be closed for regular business. There will be no passport appointments taken, and no passport walk-ins will be available. Computers will not be available for use. However, items due that day can be returned in the book drop. Thank you for your understanding.

Pushing the Limits Science Book Club

Come join us on March 18th at 11:30 for our first of four Pushing the Limits book clubs.  Pushing the Limits is a reading, viewing and discussion series for adults who are interested in science.  The series brings together books and video featuring authors, scientists and everyday people who thrive on exploring the natural world.

Our library is very lucky to have author Jon McGoran as our co-facilitator on this project which is sponsored with a grant from the National Science Foundation.

We will have four book clubs throughout this year and attendees can get a free copy of each book to read before the event.

Event dates, themes and books are:

March 18th – Arctic Drift by Clive Cussler – theme of survival

April 29th – The Seven Elements that Changed the World and The Way Things Work Now (this year’s Longwood Gardens community Read) – theme of Knowledge

June 3rd – When the Killing’s Done by T.C. Boyle – theme of Nature

July 8th – Thunderstruck by Erik Larson – theme of Connection

Quarryville Library Announces Upcoming Maker Fest

Quarryville Library Maker Fest

Calling all artist, crafters, tinkerers, and makers!

The Quarryville Library is holding a Maker Festival this spring, on April 8th, from 11 am – 3 pm.

Meant to showcase local talent and artistry, a maker festival is a collection of people who make things. It doesn’t matter what you make: we want to feature all kinds of makers, from arts and crafts to welding, soldering, digital design, and more. If you have a hobby or talent that you’d like to share with the community, be sure to sign up!

Makers, tinkerers, artists, and craftspeople of all ages and abilities are welcome to display and demonstrate their work at this festival.

Examples of “making” would be: fine arts, like painting, sculpture, or photography; crafters, like knitting, crocheting, beading; tinkerers with machines; digital artists and designers; and more!

Paper entry forms are available now, or you can use our website form. Please sign up or return your form by Friday, March 24.

Please contact Randi Kennedy, 717-806-1804 or rkennedy@quarryvillelibrary.org, with any inquiries.

New Board Members

The Quarryville Library is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members to its very active Library Board of Trustees.  Megan Bollinger and Martie Brown, both of Fulton Township, began their three year terms this week.  We look forward to working with both of them!
