October Newsletter, Calendar and Career Success Event

Lancaster County Workforce Development Board will be here on October 4th to talk about career success.  Families are encouraged to attend.

October’s newsletter highlights our volunteer opportunities and we invite you to a special meet and greet on Tuesday, Oct.3rd at noon to find out more about our great Friends of the Library.

Youth & Family Happenings in October 2017

Wednesday, October 4

10 – 11 am: 123…Play with Me!
123… Play with Me! is a Parent/Child Workshop for parents and children ages birth to three. Each week offers opportunities for children to play with developmentally appropriate toys in a play group setting and for parents to meet and question community experts in the areas of child development, speech and language, nutrition, play, movement, and music.
(Ages birth to three, with a caregiver. Older siblings welcome!)

Thursday, October 5

10 – 10:30 am: Parachute Play
Thirty minutes of fun with a parachute plus silly songs and rhymes will be just what your child needs to get the wiggles out! Bubbles, balls, and other props will ensure that the fun never stops!
(Ages 1 – 3 years with a caregiver)

10:45 – 11:15 am: Parachute Games
It’s parachute fun for the preschool crowd! Songs, rhymes, and games to keep your preschooler moving, laughing, and having fun! 30 minutes.
(Ages 3-6 years with a caregiver)

4:15 – 5:30 pm: Junior Master Gardener Club Meeting
If you and your child are interested in gardening, check out our new Junior Master Gardener Club! We plan to learn about gardening and cultivating various types of plants, including vegetables and flowers.
(Best for children ages 6 – 12 and a caregiver.)

6:30 pm: Family Movie Night
Join us for a FREE movie and popcorn in a family friendly atmosphere! All ages welcome – Movies Rated G or PG. Please call for this month’s title! Popcorn provided by the library!
(All ages welcome)

Friday, October 6

5:30 – 7:30 pm: Teen Anime Club
Do you love anime? Check out this new club! Watch anime, have some snacks, and socialize. Content will be PG/PG13. First and third Friday of the month.
(For ages 13 – 18.)

Saturday, October 7

1 pm – 4:30 pm: Adult Dungeons & Dragons Club
A club for adults devoted to playing the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game! One meeting per month, first Saturday.
(For ages 18 and up.)

Tuesday, October 10

6 – 8 pm – Teen Read Week Mini Film Festival
Special mini film festival, only for Teen Read Week! Join us for one or both of our teen films based on favorite teen novels.
(Ages 13+, content will be PG13.)

5 pm: Teen Leadership Group Meeting
A volunteer initiative for teens! Do you want to make a difference at your library? Consider joining the Teen Leadership Group at the Quarryville Library! This is a group of teens who volunteer to plan, promote, and run teen programming in the library. Come to the meeting and find out what it’s all about!
(For ages 13 – 18.)

5: 30 – 7 pm: Teen Night at the Library
After-hours Teen Night at the Quarryville Library, featuring programs and events planned by the Teen Leadership Group. This month, we’re holding scavenger and treasure hunts for Teen Read Week.
(Ages 13 – 18)

Germs don’t stand a chance against a trained health hero! Take aim on tooth decay, launch an attack on plaque, run the MyPlate relay, and toss around all sorts of healthy ideas with this action-packed program. The Health Hero Training Camp is an active approach to oral health and nutrition education; helping kids learn about their bodies with their bodies and inspiring a bit of healthy competition. Presented by St. Joseph CHI Children’s Health.
(Best for children ages 5 – 12.)

Friday, October 20

5:30 – 7:30 pm: Teen Anime Club

William Ressler, A.W.S. Reception

William Ressler was born on a farm in Lancaster County. After serving in the U.S. Army engineers in the Phillipines he graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia majoring in illustration. His subject matter has ranged from cartoons, architectural renderings and industrial themes. He is a member of the American Watercolor Society and a life member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society.  A reception will be held on Saturday, September 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 in the C.X. Carlson Gallery.
