Special Summer Reading Sponsorships and Prizes

The Quarryville Library is pleased to announce that two local businesses are providing prize sponsorships for this summer’s Summer Reading Program. These special prizes are exclusive to Quarryville Library!

Musser’s Market Buck, the Quarryville location of Musser’s Market, is sponsoring a prize for the Junior level readers. Each reader at the Junior level (ages 5 – 9 years) will receive a coupon for a free Musser’s cookie upon completion of the program.

Maplehofe Dairy is sponsoring the Read-Aloud level. Each completed Read-Aloud level child (ages 0 – 4 years) will receive a coupon for a free small Maplehofe ice cream cone.

These prizes will be awarded in addition to the prizes listed on the reading logs, which are given out county-wide.

The Quarryville Library would also like to thank the Quarryville Lions for sponsoring our series of summer reading events for 2018. Their generous support helps us offer a great variety of activities for our children and youth.

The Summer Reading Program begins on June 2, when the reading logs become available, and runs through August 11. Logs must be returned on or before August 11 in order to receive prizes.

Library Donors Support the PA One Book, Every Young Child Program

2017 selection, PA One Book, Every Young Child

The Quarryville Library would like to extend the warmest of thanks to the Solanco Community for supporting the annual Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child Program.

The Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child Program is an early literacy initiative administered by the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, with collaboration from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Carnegie Science Center, Pennsylvania Library Association, Pennsylvania Center for the Book, Pennsylvania’s Promise for Children, Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children and The Pennsylvania Child Care Association, with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The goal of this program is to get copies of the annual selected book into the hands of as many young children in Pennsylvania as possible.

For the last several years, the Solanco community has supported this program through their generous donations at the library’s Annual Benefit Auction. Between 2015 – 2017, over $1500 was raised to benefit this program. This money was then used to purchase copies of the One Book, Every Young Child selection: over 600 books have been given to Solanco’s children in the last three years!

The books are given out at library tours and programs each spring. For 2018, there were 6 library tours and 3 traveling story time visits, as well as a special PA One Book, Every Young Child Story Time at the library, where copies of this year’s selection My Cousin Momo were handed out to the children. A total of 240 books were distributed during March, April, and May.

The 2018 Benefit Auction crowd was the most generous yet. This year’s donors gave $790 to purchase books for 2019, enough for over 300 books! These books will be purchased in the fall, and will be handed out in the spring of 2019.

Thank you, Solanco, for helping us get so many books into the hands of our children!
