Saturday, December 1

1 pm – 4:30 pm: Adult Dungeons & Dragons Club
A club for adults devoted to playing the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game! One meeting per month, first Saturday.
(For ages 18 and up.)

Tuesday, December 4

10 – 11:30 am: Preschool Meet-Up
A casual, weekly meet-up for parents with preschool-age children! Bring the little ones, gather in our Early Literacy Lab, and play the morning away. A great way to meet other local parents and caregivers and for your child to make new friends.
(Best for children ages 3 – 5 years old and their parents/caregivers. Older and younger siblings welcome!)

5 – 6 pm: Math Everywhere: a Plant the Seed of Learning Workshop
Plant the Seed of Learning is an early childhood education initiative that supports the foundation of learning for children ages birth to two. By age three, 85 percent of a child’s core brain structure is formed, driving the need to support a child’s education from birth. The classes listed below will offer helpful tips on early childhood education in a playful environment. Local medical and school district professionals will present the classes.

Wednesday, December 5

A casual meet-up for parents with toddlers! Bring the little ones, gather in our Early Literacy Lab, and play the morning away. A great way to meet other local parents and caregivers and for your toddler to make new friends.
(Best for children ages 1 – 3 years old and their parents/caregivers. Older siblings welcome!)

4:30 – 5:15 pm: Study Buddies
Would your child like to improve reading skills or spelling? Then stop by the library for Study Buddies, where students can practice spelling and reading skills with help from volunteers. Be sure to bring the spelling or vocabulary list that needs to be learned, or a book to read for practice.
To keep group sizes manageable for our volunteers, this program is limited to 8 participants per week. Please register if you wish to guarantee a spot for your child on a specific date. Otherwise, walk-ins welcome as group size allows. (For children ages 5 – 10 in need of extra guided help in spelling or reading.)

Thursday, December 13

10 – 10:30 am: Parachute Play
Thirty minutes of fun with a parachute plus silly songs and rhymes will be just what your child needs to get the wiggles out! Bubbles, balls, and other props will ensure that the fun never stops!
(Ages 1 – 3 years with a caregiver)

10:45 – 11:15 am: Parachute Games
It’s parachute fun for the preschool crowd! Songs, rhymes, and games to keep your preschooler moving, laughing, and having fun! 30 minutes.
(Ages 3-6 years with a caregiver)

6 pm: Family Movie Night – On a Special Night
Join us for a FREE movie and popcorn in a family friendly atmosphere! All ages welcome – Movies Rated G or PG. This month, we’re watching a sequel featuring a family of amazing superheroes! Please contact the library at 717-786-1336 for the specific title. Popcorn provided by the library!
(All ages welcome)

Friday, December 14

10:30 – 11 am: Wee Readers
Join us for our Family Story Times, which include a mix of stories, crafts, songs and fun! You never know what we’ll be doing next! For children and their caregivers.
(Ages 1-5 years with a caregiver.)

10 am – 10:45 am: Build a “Gingerbread” House! Session 1
11 am – 11:45 am: Build a “Gingerbread” House! Session 2
12 noon – 12:45 pm: Build a “Gingerbread” House! Session 3
Celebrate the season in sweet style by decorating your very own “gingerbread” house! Participants are asked to bring one bag of candy (per family) to contribute to the “décor options” pile. Some pre-assembled houses will be available for younger children.)

11 am – 3:30 pm: Teen Board Games
Open board game time in the library! Bring your favorite board games to share with the group.
(Ages 12 +)

4 – 4:30 pm: Teen Leadership Group
A volunteer initiative for teens! Do you want to make a difference at your library? Consider joining the Teen Leadership Group at the Quarryville Library! This is a group of teens who volunteer to plan, promote, and run programs and activities for kids and teens in the library. They also help us choose what items to buy for the library. Come to the meeting and find out what it’s all about!
(For ages 13 – 18.)

Attention, Teens! Get out of the house and come to the library for a special Game Night just for you! We’ll have: Nerf Gun Battles, video games on our big projection screen, board games, tag, and more! The Library closes at 5 pm, so the library belongs to the gamers for over two hours!
(For ages 13 – 18.)

“Gingerbread” House Program back for another year!

Build a Gingerbread House At the Quarryville Library. Celebrate the season in sweet style by decorating your very own “gingerbread” house! Participants are asked to bring one bag of candy (per family) to contribute to the “décor options” pile. (Some pre-assembled houses will be available for younger children). 20 participants per session. Walk-ins welcome as room allows. Scheduled for Saturday, December 15, 2018. Pick from one of these sessions: 10 am, 11 am, or 12 pm. Ages 3 and up with a parent/caregiver. Sponsored by Coatesville Savings Bank. This family activity is scheduled for December, and features graham cracker houses and buckets of icing. Participating families provide a smorgasbord of delectible decorations, including ice cream cones, hard candies, and more!

This year, the program is taking place a bit later in the month, on Saturday, December 15th. There are 3 sessions, each with a separate registration list:

Author Don Helin to lead Writer’s Group Meeting

Author Don Helin will lead the discussion:
“Building Community through Social Media as a Writing Tool”

During his time in the military, Don Helin served at a number of stateside posts as well as overseas in Vietnam and Germany. He is the author of five thrillers that draw from his military experience, including three tours in the Pentagon. He writes for TheBurg, a community magazine based in Harrisburg.

His novel, Secret Assault, was selected as the Best Suspense/Thriller at the 2015 Indie Book Awards.

Don is a member of International Thriller Writers, Military Writers Society of America, Pennwriters, a statewide writers group in Pennsylvania, and is a mentor with the Mystery Writers of America. You can reach Don at: www.donhelin.com

December 2018 Selection for the Afternoon Book Club

The meeting will be on Wednesday, December 12th, from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM, in the Library’s Pennington Meeting Room. (This meeting may take place at a local restaurant; check back for details.)

The libraries in Lancaster County have the book in available in several print and audio editions.
