Only current cardholders in good standing (i.e. library account is not blocked due to unpaid fees or lost materials) can check out an E-reader. The checkout limit is one E-reader per household
at any given time. The Library reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who abuses equipment or is repeatedly late in returning E-readers).
- Library patrons age 18 or older with borrowing privileges
may borrow E-readers. - The patron MUST have a current address, phone number, and a
unique number (preferably a Driver’s License #) on his/her account
BEFORE checking out an E-reader. - Patrons must complete an “E-reader Agreement” with each checkout,
acknowledging financial responsibility for lost or damaged equipment. - Once an E-reader is checked out to a patron, the E-reader
(including all its accessories) becomes the responsibility of that
patron per the E-reader Agreement. - Patrons must pick up and return E-readers to the Quarryville Library.
- The loan period will be 14 days with no renewals.
- E-reader devices placed on hold must be picked up within
three business days of notification to the patron. - Overdue fines will be $1.00 a day with a maximum fine of $5.00
Failure to return an E-reader or any of its accessories within 4 weeks after the original due date will result in a charge to the cardholder’s account of up to$250 for the E-reader or any accessory, and $15.00 for a processing fee.
Warning: In accordance with the Library Theft Act, Section 6708 of Title 18, Pennsylvania Code (18 PA CSA § 6708) makes it a summary offense to retain library property after being notified to return it authorizes legal action by local authorities. Section 3921, Theft by unlawful taking or disposition, (18PA CSA § 3921) also constitutes a Misdemeanor 1, punishable by up to 5 years in prison & a $10,000 fine.
When checking out the E-reader the borrower will receive:
- The E-reader,
- A leather case that holds the E-reader,
- E-reader 5-foot micro USB charging cable (syncs the E-READER to a computer),
- A power adapter (attaches to charging cable)
- A carrying bag,
- E-reader Directions, and
- The E-reader Lending Policy & the E-reader Agreement form.

issued photo ID will be retained with each application.

When returning an E-reader the borrower must:
- Return the E-reader to the circulation desk to a STAFF member during normal library business hours. (E-readers may not be returned in the library book-drop.)
- Return all 4 items to the circulation desk at the same time. Failure to return any of the items will result in a charge to the cardholder’s account for the replacement cost of the material(s) and a $15.00 processing fee.
- If any technical problems are encountered while using the E-reader, the patron must immediately return it and all its accessories to the Quarryville Library.
