Longwood Gardens Community Read “Take and Make a Nesting Ball” virtual event

Saturday, March 27th 2021

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

As part of our annual Community Read, we’ve invited science educator Lindsey Andrews to demonstrate how to craft a nesting ball!  We will post the recorded demonstration on this site and our social media pages for you to participate!  We’ll have kits with most of the materials (no wet ingredients, sorry!) that you may pick up at our Service Desk.  Or if you prefer, gather these common items and get ready for fun:

  • twine, thin rope, or yarn (natural)
  • school or other craft glue
  • water
  • cornstarch
  • balloon
  • petroleum jelly
  • stuffing:  options include pet fur (not treated with flea/tick medicine), straw, pine needles, cotton, cloth pieces (2 inches), twigs, wool, feathers

Have a ‘ball’ building this project to attract a variety of birds to your backyard!  Take a photo and send it to us at sroche@quarryvillelibrary.org to be entered into our drawing for a family pass to Longwood Gardens.  No camera/email?  Bring your finished nesting ball in to show our staff and leave a family name and phone number so we can contact you if you’re a winner!
