Longwood Gardens Community Read -Special Family Story Time!

Wednesday, March 11th 2020

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Ages 18 months to 8 years with caregiver – other family members are welcome.   Registration will close for this event on Monday, March 9 at    10:30 am to allow us to prepare program materials!

This year we join local libraries and community partners for the seventh year of the
Longwood Gardens’ Community Read–a program designed to encourage reading for
pleasure and start a conversation. In 2020, we ask readers to push the boundaries of
what they thought they knew and dive into the wacky, weird, and wild world of plants.

For our youngest readers, this year’s program choice is Aubrey Davis’ interpretation of a
favorite folk tale, The Enormous Potato. This humorous tale begins with a farmer who
plants an eye—a potato eye. It grows and grows into an enormous potato. Harvest time
comes, but the potato is so big that the farmer can’t pull it out. So he calls for help, first
to his wife, then to their daughter, then to the dog, and so on.

In addition to reading this cultural classic, we’ll sing, dance and play, and finish up with special “potato-themed” learning stations for various ages!

Registration is requested, as we want to have enough crafts for all!  Plus, for this event all registered families will be entered into a drawing for passes to Longwood Gardens!
