Young Writers Program meeting

Young writer’s program

Wednesday, July 5th 2023

2:00 PM - 2:45 PM

Story Corner / Early Literacy Lab

Registration Required
Registration is not yet open.

We’re bringing back our writing club for elementary kids in grades K through 5 as a collaboration with the Young Writers’ Program through NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  While much of the program involves writing on your own, you will have access to the national program database to communicate with your instructor and your age group.

In June we’ll have a few warm up assignments posted to the website and the option to meet with your group to discuss your project and the assignment.  Use the online platform, but in case you prefer, stop by the Service Desk for your own special notebook!  We may be meeting by Zoom chat to accommodate vacations but can schedule meetings each month. The dates on the summer calendar are tentative based on everyone’s availability.

On July 1, you’ll accept the challenge to write your very own novel!  Yes you can do it!

In August we’ll all celebrate our success as a community of writers.  We can share our projects to learn how to give and get gentle feedback, and maybe we’ll take the next step and publish it!

Registrants will receive a classroom code to join their age level group (K-2) or (3-5).  Parents will be asked to review and sign NaNoWriMo permission forms for youth under age 13.

Our club has started and members are off and running to compose their novels! You may inquire with Youth Services if there is any adapted version of the challenge that your child may sign up for at this time. Thank you for your interest!
