Cider Making

Thursday, September 29, 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Johnny Appleseed was born on September 26! Join naturalist Lisa Sanchez from the Lancaster County Parks & Rec department for some fresh apple cider to (belatedly) celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday. We will explore the history of the apple tree and make fresh cider with an old-fashioned cider press. Appropriate for all ages. Click here to register.

Annual Open Enrollment Announcement

Lancaster County Office of Aging runs a program called PA Medi, which assists older adults with Medicare/Medicaid and health insurance questions. Volunteers from the group will be at the library on October 27 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Call PA Medi at 717-229-7979 to sign up for a free appointment to go over your medical plan. The appointments are done confidentially and in an unbiased manner. At this time you can switch your part D plan (RX) or switch from your current Advantage Plan to another. Plan changes will be effective in the new year 2023. This is only for those who already have Medicare.

Solanco Neighborhood Ministries

The Solanco Food Bank is in need of the following items:

  • loaves of bread
  • jelly
  • instant oatmeal (8 or 10 pack)
  • applesauce (24 oz)
  • spaghetti/pasta/egg noodles
  • canned fruit (any size or variety)
  • cleaning items
  • cream of mushroom/cream of chicken soup
  • Manwich
  • size 3 & 5 diapers and baby wipes

The ministry is excited to be moving to their new location at 14 South Church Street, Quarryville! Their office, the food bank, and the drop-off room will be closed from September 19-23. For details about the move, visit their website.
