July events are open for registration!
Registration is required for most of our youth programs except where noted. We open registration for each following month on the 15th day of the current month. If you are registered and find you can’t attend, thank you for being considerate and ‘unregistering’. When events are overbooked we cannot guarantee your spot if you do not arrive on time. Thank you for understanding.

Summer Reading has started strong! We are on track to sign up more readers than ever this year! If you haven’t registered your child (birth to age 19) yet, you can get your form at the service desk or, if you prefer, you can download the Beanstack app and register from home! Our prizes are bigger and better than ever this year!

For families participating in GO Lancaster: Check the website for real-time information about each trail you will be visiting. To sign up, download on the Beanstack app or stop into our library and ask for the hard copy version!

Children ages 6-8 and 9-11 are invited to be part of our newest art show! Entries may be brought to the library on Saturday, July 15, between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, and a reception will be held on Saturday, July 22, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded at 2:00 during the reception for each age grouping in the following categories:
  • Animals, Pets & Fantasy creatures
  • Earthscape (scenery from landscape, sea, or cityscape)
  • My Favorite Day (a family trip, holiday, day with friends, special event, etc.)
There is a fee of $1.00 per entry, and a limit of 2 entries (1 per category) per child. Please have your artwork mounted on poster board or similar stiff backing for hanging purposes.

Check out these July programs for kids of all ages who love to cook (and eat)!

Garden Tour – July 20 at 11 am. Learn to grow and harvest the freshest ingredients! Ages 3-11. Drop-in program, no registration is required.

Chemistry Magic – Ice Cream! – July 25 at 4 pm. We welcome Eurofins Lancaster Labs chemists who will teach you how to make ice cream with liquid nitrogen! Ages 8-14. Registration is required and will close 24 hours before the event.

Teen Chefs – July 28 at 2 pm. Make a healthy snack using ingredients you prefer from an assortment of options! Great for hiking those “Go Lancaster” trails! Ages 12-17. Registration is required and will close 24 hours before event.

July 27 at 10 am. (Appropriate for kindergarten through 8th grade). The program will include audience participation, a touch of magic, show and tell with real fossils, and a mystery fossil game show.

July 15 at 12:30 pm. Kids 10+ with adult caregivers. Please register every attendee. If this session fills, we may open an additional session later in the afternoon.

PLEASE NOTE: This event was offered previously in summer of 2022. If you participated last year, the puzzles are the same, so this would not be a challenge for you. We thank you for allowing others to experience this escape room.

Come try our escape room challenge! The Bermuda Triangle is a space in the North Atlantic where ships, planes, and people have allegedly gone missing. Roughly, its borders run from Florida to Bermuda to Puerto Rico. Can you work collaboratively to make it through?

Our chess club is back for a quick summer session! For kids ages 7-15, all levels welcome! Registration is required for each week – walk-ins will be admitted as space allows.

We are again celebrating our recent 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten finishers! This is an ‘invitation only’ event that is earned by completing this amazing milestone! If you are interested in learning more about the program, ask any of our staff to get you started.

Come join the Youth Services team as we launch our permanent StoryWalk®. We’ve received grant funds to construct this project and have partnered with Lancaster County CTC and Scout Troop 76. Transportation services were kindly donated by J Dog Hauling and support in many forms came from Reynolds & Shivery Funeral Homes, Inc.!

MORE YEAR-ROUND EARLY CHILDHOOD EVENTS IN JULY

  • Baby’s First Storytime (Ages birth – 17 months) Tuesdays, July 11, 18 & 25 at 10:00 am. Please register for each session. Location will be announced the day before each event.
  • Young and the Restless (Ages 18 months – 3 years, other family members welcome) Wednesdays, July 12, 26 at 10:30 am. Please register for each session.
  • Preschool Zone! Free play for young children in our Story Corner on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm as library needs allow. Adult supervision is required, no registration needed.

Join us in person or via Zoom for our third annual Teen SummerZine program! Our guest authors and illustrators will encourage and inspire writers, artists, and readers ages 12-19, providing information about their own creative process as well as prompts, opportunities for sharing and feedback, and publication in our library-catalogued zine! Visit lancasterlibraries.org for monthly dates and to register.

Teens are welcome at select adult events, such as Riding the Rails: 175 Years of Service (through the Railroad Museum) on July 20 at 6 pm, Mid-Day Matinee on July 21 at 1 pm (some titles are rated PG-13 – call for title) and Insects: Friend or Foe? A Parks & Rec program (10+) on July 27 at 6 pm.

Teens who are seeking employment can get help finding internships through PA CareerLink, and learning digital literacy skills through our partnership with Millersville University.

Teen tech volunteers needing service hours are welcome to help with coding and robotics programs. Contact sroche@quarryvillelibrary.org!
