Thursday June 1

10 am: Parachute Play
Thirty minutes of fun with a parachute plus silly songs and rhymes will be just what your child needs to get the wiggles out! Bubbles, balls, and other props will ensure that the fun never stops!

It’s parachute fun for the preschool crowd! Songs, rhymes, and games to keep your preschooler moving, laughing, and having fun!

Join us for a FREE movie and popcorn in a family friendly atmosphere! All ages welcome – Movies Rated G or PG. Please call for this month’s title! Popcorn provided by the library!

5:30 – 7:30 pm: Teen Anime Club
Do you love anime? Check out this new club! Watch anime, have some snacks, and socialize. Content will be PG/PG13. First and third Friday of the month.

Saturday, June 3

Start of the Summer Reading Program
This year, reading logs are available for the following levels:
• Read-Aloud, for ages 0-4 years
• Junior, for ages 5-9 years
• Tween, for ages 10-12 years
• Teen, for ages 13-19 years
The logs will be available starting June 3rd and the program runs through August 12th. There will be weekly Lost in the Library Scavenger Hunts for the duration of the program, with a prize drawn each week. There will also be a series of special programs. Please check our calendar for more information!

2:00 pm—3:30 pm: Summer Reading Kick-Off
Stop in to play some games, pick up your reading logs, and adopt a special friend who you can practice reading with this summer! We’ll have information about all our special summer programs for young children, kids, and teens.

Join us for our Family Story Times, which include a mix of stories, crafts, songs and fun! You never know what we’ll be doing next! For children and their caregivers.

6 pm: Teen Leadership Group Meeting
A volunteer initiative for teens! Do you want to make a difference at your library? Consider joining the Teen Leadership Group at the Quarryville Library! This is a group of teens who volunteer to plan, promote, and run teen programming in the library. Come to the meeting and find out what it’s all about!
(For ages 13 – 18.)

8 pm (June 9) – 7 am (June 10): Summer Teen Lock-In
After-hours Teen Night at the Quarryville Library, featuring programs and events planned by the Teen Leadership Group. Join us for our first ever summer teen lock-in! Movies, games, and hijinks all night!

Presented by Giggle Magic. Put on your safari hats, adjust your binoculars, and get ready to go on a Silly Safari! Oh, my- has Debra the Zebra lost her stripes? Will Ellie the Elephant’s disappearing act be good enough to get her on America’s Got Talent? There goes Gerry the Giraffe, he’s standing on his head…again! Have the animals GONE WILD??

This year, “The BugMan” will be focusing on the incredible ways insects improve our planet. Clean water, pollination, food for animals and even their unusual defense strategies. This unique, 1-hour program will offer everyone a close look into the crazy world of insects. Expect incredible displays and lots of neat facts about insects and their related friends. Also expect LIVE Bugs as always!

2 pm: “Dinosaur Dig” with Field Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka
Join the dig with Field Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka! Interactive fossil talk to ready the Jr. Paleontologists to go on their dig! Field Paleontologist Mike will cover how and where fossils are found. See some amazing discoveries from the time of the dinosaurs to the time of the ice age. Paleontologist Roberta will take the Jr. Paleontologists on their dig. Locate some fossil bones during the dig, and with Roberta’s help, place the fossil bones on a Triceratops cut out. Youth will build a Triceratops with the fossil bones they discover during their dig.
After the dig, everyone may spend time viewing the fossil museum!

Young minds will love this story of aspiring engineer Rosie as she learns, tinkers, tries, and tries again. After the story students will enjoy learning about some of the Delaware Art Museum’s sculptural pieces and experimenting with how the artists create something both beautiful and brilliant! Finally, each student will get to build and decorate their own pint-sized parachute to help a figurine fly. Join us for our Family Story Times, which include a mix of stories, crafts, songs and fun! You never know what we’ll be doing next! For children and their caregivers.

List of Makers Announced for April 8 Maker Fest

The Quarryville Library’s upcoming Maker Fest is fast approaching, and we’ve had a great response to our call for makers.

The makers will be demonstrating their art, craft, or talent, and hands-on teaching and learning is available for those tasks that are safe. Our list of makers includes the following:

  • Lancaster Spinners & Weavers Guild: spinning, weaving, knitting and/or crocheting – hands-on
  • Bloodstone Forge – blacksmithing
  • Make717, with either a 3D Printer or Soldering
  • Photogrammetry by Dennis Brooks – photographing an item, rendering it in a computer, and 3D printing.
  • Melted Crafts by Keri Scheid
  • Copper Crafts by Dan Raugh
  • Knitting with Peg Raugh – hands-on
  • Artist Trading Cards with Mary Ferris – hands-on
  • Building a Computer with Scott Kennedy – hands-on
  • Painting with Melody Capps – hands-on
  • Quilling with Jolene Burkholder – hands-on
  • German Stars & Bells with Karen Iesley – hands-on
  • Wood Carving with Terry Keemer
  • Quilting with Darlene Keemer – hands-on
  • Caricature Drawing with Charles Ploppert

Also available will be a selection of hands-on STEM kits, including Ozobots, Legos, Keva Planks, and more!
