FAQs

Who can participate?

This program is for Solanco High School students in grades 9-12 and area teens in equivalent grades whether in private or home school.

Is there a date for when logs have to be submitted by?

Cut off date for 2025 drawing is April 4.  All logs submitted after this date will go into next year’s drawing. Once a student has graduated or finished a homeschool program, they are ineligible for the rewards.

How do I get my rewards and prizes if I am a winner?

Small rewards (books, stickers, etc.) for each milestone of 10 books will be claimed:

  • by SHS students at the school library during the school year.
  • by all other students at Quarryville Library during the school year
  • by all participants at Quarryville Library during the summer months
  • All winners of prize drawings will be notified at the end of the Solanco School District school year by phone and email.  Prize winners may claim their prizes at Quarryville Library during our open hours. You should be prepared to show identification (library card or photo ID, or a parent who has ID and can vouch for you). If prizes are not claimed by winners after 2 weeks we will select another winner. Names of winners will be made available upon request.

What books can I read?

Reading choice is entirely up to you! Read books that interest you. You can read fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, audiobooks, eBooks, etc. Books should be at or above your reading level or very close to it. Don’t submit books that you know are too easy for you; this is meant to be a challenge.

What if I am uncomfortable reporting a title of a book I’ve read?

We value your privacy and if you would prefer to note on your log the genre and number of pages of a book you read, we will accept that. Book reviews submitted for extra chances to win do need to reference the book’s title and author to make it identifiable for other readers.

Can I use books that I read in 8th grade or earlier?

No. Everyone starts from the point they sign up.

Can I count books I am reading during the Summer Reading Challenge with Quarryville Library?

Yes! We want to reward all of the reading you do, you may ‘double dip’!

I started a book, but didn’t like it and don’t want to finish. Can I still add it to my list?

No. If you choose not to finish the book, move on and find another one you like better. Only log titles that you read completely. You can still count the minutes for Summer Reading though.

How will I have time to read 100 books?

If you begin during your freshman year (approximately age 14), you have 4 years to complete the challenge. We don’t expect you to complete the program in a week, month, or even a year. Participation is limited to one challenge per person.

Do audiobooks and graphic novels count? Can I count books I’m required to read in school?

Yes, both count for this challenge. You can also count books you are required to read for school.

Can I read the same book more than once?

No. For this program, we’d like you to read 100 separate titles.

Can I participate through Beanstack?

Unfortunately, Beanstack challenges must be offered county-wide to be set up in their system. This challenge is limited to the lucky teens of the Southern End – including Solanco High School and area homeschoolers and private school students.  You can track your summer reading and any reading you wish through the app, but for us to track your progress toward this goal, we’ll need to have the paper forms.

How do I earn entries for the Midway Prize and the Grand Prize?

Every optional Book Review sheet that you turn in counts as an extra prize entry. You can also choose not to complete any Book Reviews at all. You will get a Midway Prize entry at 50. You will receive a Grand Prize entry when you complete the 100 books challenge. Every Book Review that you turn in increases your chances of winning a prize.
