The library has a notary! Many patrons have asked if the library provides notary services – now we do! Please call for an appointment. We have weekday, evening, and Saturday appointments available.
We can:
Notarize a signature(s) – The document must be signed in the presence of the notary.
Administer oaths/affirmations – The notary will ask you to swear or affirm the information provided is true/accurate then verify the act on your document.
Create certified copies of certain documents – The notary will make a copy of your original document (preferred) or compare your copy to the original and verify they are exact duplicates. The original may not have any alterations. (Excluded documents include Birth and Death Certificates, Naturalization certificates, copyrighted materials and items marked “Do not copy” or Illegal to Copy”.)
Take acknowledgement of documents. – The notary will be verifying your verbal agreement that you signed the document.
Please note that BY LAW:
Our notary is unable to notarize DMV documents for vehicle sales, transfers, registrations, or licensing. These items must be completed at a state licensed facility.
Our notary cannot notarize any document containing blank spaces.
Our notary has the right to deny notarization of any document that does not meet the criteria for legal notarization.
All documents should contain notarial language including venue (State and County of notary). If your document does not contain the proper language, be prepared to choose which notarial act you would like the notary to provide, so the appropriate language can be added to the document. The notary may not choose for you.
All persons that are a required part of the notary appointment MUST be present and have valid identification. (Current driver’s license, passport, or other photo ID. Some non-photo ID may be acceptable.) Notary may deny service to any person if they deem the customer’s identification to be insufficient to confirm the customer’s identity.
The Notary is not an attorney licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth. The Notary is not allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters, including immigration, or charge a fee for those activities.
